Sponsor a Soldier

A care-package program run by Heirloom Legacy, sending boxes to deployed service members who receive little or no mail from home.

Care packages and handwritten letters being boxed for deployed soldiers

Why we do this

Mail call matters.

Our co-owner Janyia Pugh is a military spouse. Living the deployment cycle alongside her husband, she saw first-hand what mail call does for morale, and noticed that in every unit there are people whose names are never called, service members with no family sending anything at all. That's where the idea for Sponsor a Soldier came from.

Sponsor a Soldier exists for them. We partner with unit family readiness groups to identify service members who receive no mail, then ship them a box every quarter. A portion of every wedding we plan funds the program, and couples can add a sponsorship to their package as a wedding favor in their guests' honor.

To date: 243 boxes have been sent.
